Pre-planted coir rolls for ponds
These 3m long rolls are preplanted with a mix of 30 non-invasive and attractive native pond plants. They were originally used for riverbank restoration schemes, but we think they're brilliant for ponds. If you have a pond with a liner of some kind you have a problem - no growing medium for plants. These coir rolls will sit on a ledge down to 50cm underwater, or be anchored on a sloping bank, and gradually rot away. We can provide sweet chestnut stakes or pegs on request.
The rolls come preplanted with a mix of well established British native plants at 10 plants per metre. This will give your pond the appearance of being instantly mature. Our standard mix is Carex acutiformis (Lesser Pond Sedge) Juncus effusus (Soft Rush) Lythrum salicaria (Purple Loosestrife) Iris pseudacorus (Yellow Flag Iris) Phalaris arundinacea (Reed Canary Grass). This is what you can see in the established roll pictured. We can also supply bespoke mixes on request. All the plants in our coir rolls are grown in the UK from UK stock.
The coir is sourced from a village in Sri Lanka, badly affected by the 2004 Tsunami. It arrives in the UK as highly compressed organic coir fibre, a waste product from coconut production. It's processed by our suppliers here into rolls and mats. The coir fibre take 5 - 10 years to degrade, so perfect for plants to establish in. It's pH neutral and completely inert. The coir is kept in shape inside a polypropylene net.
We have a video on YouTube of Gardener's Question Time's Matthew Wilson using them on a project with one of our partners in Yorkshire. As featured on Gardeners' World, too.
Please contact us if you are interested in our coir rolls as prices will vary and we quote on a job by job basis. Prices for smaller lengths of rolls are £27.50 per linear metre (excluding VAT) for under 6 metres, or two rolls, of a standard mix, plus delivery by pallet.
PLEASE NOTE: AS THESE ROLLS ARE SHIPPED ON PALLETS WE WILL NEED GOOD ACCESS TO DELIVER.Supplier: Gower Wildflowers
